Local Workforce Development Boards play an extremely important role in building a quality workforce to meet the skill demands of employers and assist Texans in their pursuit of good paying, productive jobs. The success of a Board is closely tied to the quality of its leadership.

Board members are the “trustees” or guardians of the state’s workforce development system. 

PRIVATE SECTOR

Lee Reed
 - replaces Robert Walker.  He  has been a member since October 12, 2004.  His term is from July 1, 2006 – June 30, 2010.  Mr. Reed is  the Senior Vice President for IBC (Private Sector) located in Brownsville, Texas.  He was selected for appointment by Mayor Eddie Treviño.

Baldomero Treviño
 - replaces Mr. Mario Sais. He has been a member since August 11, 2009. His term is from July 1, 2009 – June 30, 2013. Mr. Treviño is the Owner of Mr. B. Motor Company located in Brownsville, Texas. He was selected for appointment by Mayor Pat Ahumada. 

Sonia Walsh
 - replaces Ms. Nora Garza. She has been a member since July 14, 2009.  Her term is from July 1, 2007 – June 30, 2011. Ms. Walsh is the HR Manager for Su Clinica Familiar (Private Sector) located in Harlingen, Texas. She was selected for appointment by Judge Carlos Cascos.

Linda V. Alaniz, Secretary 
 - replaces Mr. Ivy Jay Arroyo.  She has been a member since August 21, 2007.  Her term is from July 1, 2007 – June 30, 2011.  Ms. Alaniz is the Owner/President of ERI Funding Group (Private Sector) located in Rio Hondo, Texas.  She was selected for appointment by Judge Carlos Cascos.

Federico V. Garza, Chair  
 - replaces Mr. Mitchell Kent Sweezy.  He has been a member since July 2, 2002.  His term is from July 1, 2006 – June 30, 2010.  Mr. Garza is the Owner of South Texas Management Services  (Private Sector) located in Harlingen, Texas.  He was selected for appointment by Judge Gilberto Hinojosa.

Vicente Mendez  
 - replaces Ms. Yolanda Lozano-Garza.  He has been a member since July 24, 2007.  His term is from July 1, 2007 – June 30, 2011.  Mr. Mendez is the Principal of Ambiotec Civil Engineering Group, Inc. (Private Sector) located in Brownsville, Texas.  He was selected for appointment by Judge Carlos Cascos.

- replaces Ms. Deborah Salazar.  She has been a member since July 22, 2008.  Her term is from July 1, 2008 – June 30, 2012. Ms. Hernandez is the Chief Executive Officer of Elder Care Home Health (Private Sector) located in San Benito, Texas.  She was selected for appointment by Judge Carlos H. Cascos, CPA.

Sandy Lee Galvan 
 - replaces Ruben Rodriguez.  She has been a member since February 10, 2009. Her term is from July 1, 2009 – June 30, 2013.  Ms. Galvan is the Business Owner of Baby Belle Toys & More dba Santana’s Wigs & Hair Extensions (Private Sector) located in Brownsville, Texas.  She was selected for appointment by Mayor Pat Ahumada.

James Cortez  
 - replaces Ms. Katherine Sanford.  He has been a member since September 25, 2007.  His term is from July 1, 2007 – June 30, 2011.  Mr. Cortez is the Director of Marketing for Oakcrest Management, Inc. (Private Sector) located in Brownsville, Texas.  He was selected for appointment by Judge Carlos Cascos.

David V. Day 
 - replaces David Merrill. He has been a member since March 24, 2009. His term is from July 1, 2007 – June 30, 2011. Mr. Day is the President and Chief Engineer of CASA Engineering, L.L.C. (Private Sector) located in Harlingen, Texas. He was selected for appointment by Judge Carlos H. Cascos.

Joseph Anthony Campos 
 - replaces David Merrill.  He has been a member since July 24, 2007.  His term is from July 1, 2007 – June 30, 2011.  Mr. Campos is the owner of Antonio's (Private Sector) located in Brownsville, Texas.  He was selected for appointment by Judge Carlos H. Cascos.

Clarissa Roewe 
 - replaces Lilian Kim.  She has been a member since September 22, 2008.  Her term is from July 1, 2008 – June 30, 2012.  Ms. Roewe is the Property Supervisor of Heather Apartments (Private Sector) located in San Benito, Texas. She was selected for appointment by Judge Carlos H. Cascos.

Erie Tejada 
 - replaces Joey Carrizales. She has been a member since August 25, 2009.  Her term is from July 1, 2009 – June 30, 2013. Ms. Tejada is the Early Head Start Director/Director of Children Services at Neighbors In Need of Services, Inc. (NIÑOS) Head Start Program (CBO) located in San Benito, Texas. She was selected for appointment by Judge Carlos H. Cascos.

Ruben Herrera 
 - replaces Mr. Bill Conner.  He has been a member since July 22, 2008.  His term is from July 1, 2008 – June 30, 2012.  Mr. Herrera is a Board Member of the Brownsville Economic Development Council  (Economic Development). He was selected for appointment by Mayor Pat Ahumada.

Christine H. Burton  
 - replaces Mr. Ron Rogers.  She has bee a member since November 6, 2007.  Her term is from July 1, 2007 – June 30, 2011.  Ms. Burton is a Board Member for the Adult Literacy Council, Inc. (dba Brownsville Literacy Center - Literacy Council) located in Brownsville, Texas.  She was selected for appointment by Judge Carlos Cascos.  

Laura Gilmore
 - has been a Board Member since Cameron Works became a Workforce Development Board; she has been a Member since April 3, 1996.  Her current term is from July 1, 2006 – June 30, 2010.  Ms. Gilmore is the Program Manager for Texas Health & Human Services Commission (Public Assistance) located in Brownsville, Texas.  She was selected for appointment by Judge Gilberto Hinojosa.

Lillian “Lillie” Champion
 - replaces Paula Gomez. She has been a member since September 22, 2008.  Her term is from July 1, 2008 – June 30, 2012. Ms. Champion is the Executive Director for the Friendship of Women, Inc. (CBO) located in Brownsville, Texas. She was selected for appointment by Mayor Pat Ahumada.

Stanley Pat Hobbs
 - replaces Dr. J Gilbert Leal. He has been a  Member since September 22, 2008.  His term is from July 1, 2009 – June 30, 2013. Mr. Hobbs is the Dean of Instruction Texas State Technical College (Education) located in Harlingen, Texas.  He was selected for appointment by Judge Carlos H. Cascos.

Polo Leal 
 - replaces Ms. Sonia Walsh.  He has been a member since August 12, 2003.  His term is from July 1, 2007 – June 30, 2011.  Mr. Leal is the Integrated Service Area Manager for the Texas Workforce Commission  (Employment Services) located in Corpus Christi, Texas.  He was selected for appointment by Judge Gilberto Hinojosa.

Jonathan Robles 
 - replaces Mr. Juan Ortega.  He has been a member since July 5, 2006.  His term is from July 1, 2006 – June 30, 2010.  Mr. Robles is the Financial Secretary for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (Labor Sector) located in Weslaco, Texas.

Dr. Oscar Cantu 
 - replaces Mr. Hector Quintanilla. He has been a member since November 10, 2009. His term is from July 1, 2009 – June 30, 2013.  Dr. Cantu is the Administrator for Adult Continuing Education (ABE) for Brownsville Independent School District located in Brownsville, Texas. He was selected for appointment by Mayor Pat Ahumada.

Ron Rogers
 - replaces Ms. Evelon Dale.  He has been a member since November 6, 2007.  His term is from July 1, 2007 – June 30, 2011.  Mr. Rogers is the Vice-Chair for the San Benito Economic Development Corporation (CBO) located in San Benito, Texas.  He was selected for appointment by Judge Carlos Cascos.

Celeste Sanchez, Vice-Chair  
 - replaces Dr. Jesus Sanchez.  She has been a member since August 10, 1999.  Her term is from July 1, 2007 – June 30, 2011.  Ms. Sanchez is the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction for San Benito CISD (Education) located in San Benito, Texas.  She was selected for appointment by Judge Gilberto Hinojosa.

Concepcion “Connie” Robles 
 -  replaces Rafael Rangel. She has been a member since May 19, 2009.  Her term is from July 1, 2008 – June 30, 2012. Ms. Robles is a Vocational Rehabilitation Teacher for the Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services (Vocational Rehabilitation) located in Harlingen, Texas.  She was selected for appointment by Judge Carlos H. Cascos.
